At a recent women's event, one of the banners on display caught my special attention. I wasn't really sure why, but it did. I wanted to take a photo with it, but I was kinda shy about it and there was a lot going on too. If you look at the photo, it is the banner on the left towards the back that says, "free".

It seemed to me almost like a fairytale word, or a dream. Imagine what it would feel like to be free. When I think of the word free what comes to mind is to not have fears weighing me down.

Being free is something that we are encouraged to experience. We see how God frees His chosen people from captivity in Egypt, for instance. We also learn how God has freed us of our sin through Jesus Christ. But what does it feel like to be free in our daily life?

Galatians 5:13 says, "You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love."

There is a wrong way to live freely. Being free as believers doesn't give us the green light to do the opposite of what the Holy Spirit is leading us to live like. Being truly free means we serve each other in love.

Fear wants to keep us from doing just that. Fear gives us the worst case scenario as though it is certainly going to happen if we let go of our fear and choose to serve God and others.

Faith, however, is the link that takes us from fear to free. When we put our trust in God, that He will help us do what feels impossible, He honors our faith and helps us live in that freedom that can only be found in His strength.

It's easier said than done, but the Holy Spirit is determined to help us live free. It's not a fairytale or a dream. This is what we are called to be!
